School District of Janesville sees positive outcomes using SEL

The U. S. Department of Education’s Doing What Works Clearinghouse for Early Childhood Education describes SEL professional development as improving outcomes for Janesville’s preschool children by focusing on three things: children’s social and language interactions, an integrated curriculum, and scaffolded instruction. When the district shifted from its traditional preschool approach to intentional and planned instruction, it saw significant overall gains for 85–90 percent of children in the SEL program, including English learners.
