Standard 10.Uses skills and techniques related to building, maintaining, and repairing structures
  Level IV (Grade 9-12)
   1. Uses skills to construct new structures (e.g., masonry skills, electrical skills, carpentry skills, metal working skills)
   2. Understands the meaning of craftsmanship related to the construction process
   3. Uses soldering, welding, and brazing techniques in the building, maintenance, and repair of structures
   4. Uses working diagrams, blueprints, and drawings to construct plans, follow specifications, and solve design problems
   5. Understands techniques for shaping and cutting building materials to desired specifications (e.g., sawing, planing, turning, boring, mortising, sanding, masonry splits, cutting pipe)
   6. Understands finishing techniques (e.g., surface preparation, selecting a finish, applying the finish)
   7. Uses framing techniques for walls, floors, ceilings, rafters, structural timbers, stairs, trusses, and fireproof metal studs
   8. Understands methods used for the installation of various building materials (e.g., piping, wiring, bricks, drywall, carpeting, doors, windows, interior and exterior wall covering and trim)
   9. Understands processes used for joining stock (e.g., wood joints, adhesives, clamping, bonding, lamination, fasteners, gluing)
   10. Understands methods for installing, maintaining, and repairing the following HVAC systems: steam, hot water, forced air and unit ventilation, air conditioning, and solar systems
   11. Understands the use of slings and common rigging hardware, inspection techniques and rejection criteria used for slings and common rigging hardware, basic hitch configurations and their proper connections, and basic load-handling safety practices
   12. Knows all components of preparing foundations and footings, including types of footings, when edge forms are required, and types of build forms for concrete including wall, column, beam, and stair forms
   13. Understands how to pour, reinforce, level, and cure concrete, and demonstrate appropriate handling and placing techniques
   14. Understands methods of brick laying, including arrangement of masonry materials for efficient use, proper placement of mortar pans, proper manipulation of a trowel, and processes and formulas for mixing mortar
   15. Understands the installation of the most commonly used bathroom and kitchen water faucets
   16. Knows the plumbing system in a structure
   17. Knows the components and functions of sanitary and storm sewer systems in a community
